The arrival of the long-awaited James Bond video game, titled 007 First Light, will now arrive later until 27 May 2026.
First planned for a 27 March release, the title will now hit shelves approximately a couple of months after its initial date.
A Long-Awaited Comeback for 007
This project marks the first video game centered on the legendary British spy since 2012's 007 Legends, wrapping up a lengthy hiatus for the character in the gaming world.
"The game is fully playable from beginning to end," explained studio IO Interactive. "However, we are using this extra time to further polish and ensure it meets the lofty standards of our players."
Production Particulars and Story Elements
The game is being crafted alongside Delphi Interactive, a studio also behind another major title.
Patrick Gibson, star of Dexter: Original Sin, takes on the role of a 26-year-old James Bond in what is described as a new look at the early days.
The narrative charts Bond as he gets enlisted into MI6 and is granted his legendary 00 status, offering a standalone story unconnected to the films or books.
Star-Studded Cast and Mechanics Glimpses
Boosting the celebrity appeal, US singer Lenny Kravitz has been revealed as the game's main villain.
Released preview videos have highlighted certain resemblances with IO Interactive's successful Hitman franchise, while also showcasing the classic gadgets and action-packed sequences expected from Bond.
That said, comments from viewers on these trailers raised issues over graphical fidelity, pointing out stuttering and excessive motion blur.
An Ambitious Undertaking
IO Interactive has labeled 007 First Light its "most ambitious project to date."
"We're confident this prepares 007 First Light up for long-term success," the studio stated. "Thank you for the patience and steadfast backing we've received."
