My Hero Academia Cast Members Look Back on an Heartfelt Last Chapter: 'I’m Something of a Weepy Mess'
The long-running anime series My Hero Academia has finally concluded, leaving fans with a profound sense of emotion that goes deeper than the story itself. This heroic tale has always been greater than a straightforward plot; it's a rite-of-passage story about optimism, resilience, and the true meaning of courage in a world full of trials. The final season drives these central ideas to their absolute limit, as Class 1-A faces the fallout of the Paranormal Liberation Front and a world teetering on the brink of collapse.
For a whole audience, the series, which debuted in 2015, served as their gateway to anime. From its explosive debut to its emotional ending, it defined the art form for nearly a decade. Its conclusion truly signifies the end of a chapter. If you find yourself getting misty-eyed during the final episodes, know that you are in good company. The English dub cast experienced those exact emotions, channeling raw sentiment into their recordings for the last chapters.
Saying Farewell to a Defining Chapter
"It was such a wonderful thing to see this final season weave together all these narrative strands into this huge, heartfelt release for these heroes," shared one actor. "And to be part of that, during that time, portraying the characters, is truly moving."
The difficulty of the goodbye isn't solely due to the storyline. My Hero Academia became a defining chapter in the lives of its cast, and with its end comes the ending of an era they have carried with them for a long time.
"Just as a person, for whom this has been a daily reality for the majority of ten years, even if the dialogue I deliver isn’t particularly emotional, if it’s just my character being himself, every time I wrap recording, I’m kind of a blubbering wreck because it's ending. I’m not ready," admitted another veteran voice actor.
Unexpected Tears from the Final Battles
Despite portraying their own iconic roles, several cast members still have personal favorite characters beyond their roles, figures whose story arcs affected them just as hard on an emotional level.
"The thing that’s taken me aback so far in my watching of the last episodes is how numerous characters are making me cry," said one actor. "Whether that be the Symbol of Peace's battle at the very beginning of this season, the Erasure Hero, [even] the Shining Hero drew a tear this season!"
The performers behind the brotherly hero-and-villain duo were also caught up in the heartbreak of their complicated dynamic, especially during the brothers’ confrontations across the final chapters.
A Powerful Moment
"Just a couple of days ago, a fellow actor said something as his character that, honestly, if you heard it alone, it’s a simple line, it shouldn't affect anyone, but he poses a question to his sibling a inquiry, and the way it was performed was so real and poignant," remembered one actor. "It influenced the performance I gave. I adore my castmates, they’re so good at this, and I can’t express enough that I’m so fortunate."
Another actor agreed wholeheartedly, clarifying that the seemingly simple question traces back to a brief, funny scene introduced earlier, one that comes full circle in the finale and lands with devastating emotional weight.
"Jump ahead to the last episodes, when they’re meeting, and [the character] says, 'Wait, I need more time'," the actor said. "Yes, it was just a way to try to reach out. It was just a line, but within the story, it's all-encompassing. It's love, understanding, remorse..."
"... and penitence," finished the other, voice thick with emotion. "Those brothers ought to have had the chance to talk like that."
