Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the names to be considered by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
